This program is now full, please return in early spring 2025 if interested in joining.
The Collingwood Sidelaunchers are the CPC's dragon boat team. We are made up of participants of all ages and abilities. We hold practices on water with our coach on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:45pm-8:00pm (weather permitting) from May until late September. We also offer a more relaxed and social practice without a coach most Sundays from 9:00-10:00am. The two teams will participate in practices, training, and regattas throughout the season.
In addition to the full benefits of Collingwood Paddling Club membership – Open Paddle, Masters Paddling, Endurance Paddling, we are offering a wider range of Dragon Boat programs this year – hopefully there is something that interests you.
Sidelaunchers Orientation (NEW for 2024) - This program is now full, please return in early spring 2025 if interested in joining
Are you new to Dragon Boat, haven’t paddled in a while, or have not paddled with the Collingwood Sidelaunchers? We are offering a four week coached session that does not require you to become a full member of the Collingwood Paddling Club in order to take part. These sessions will take place on Wednesday nights in May from 6:30 – 8 pm. Participants will be taught dragon boat safety, paddling skills, and will be familiarized with the Collingwood Dragon Boat program. The coach will conduct a skills assessment and make recommendations as to next steps. At the end of the four weeks we hope you decide to join us as a member of the paddling club and the dragon boat team.
Collingwood Sidelaunchers Georgian
This team will attend 3 regattas in the 2024 Dragon Boat Season:
Hamilton Bayfront Park on July 6,
Welland Hope Floats on August 10 and
Stratford on September 14.
There is an additional cost for participation in each of these regattas.
Paddlers interested in joining this team must be members of the Collingwood Paddling Club and sign up for an assessment with Coach Kirsty on May 25 – there is no additional cost for this assessment and the team will be selected on the basis of the assessment results, position in the boat, and commitment to attending the regattas listed above.
Collingwood Sidelaunchers Huronic
There is no assessment requirement to paddle on this boat. However, it is encouraged that you do one anyway – the feedback will be valuable to everyone.
Depending on paddler interest, this team has the option of attending either or both of the following regattas:
Barrie Waterfront on August 17
Stratford on September 14
New members should register for the Sidelaunchers Orientation program. If you are an experienced Dragon Boat paddler from another club, please reach out and we will recommend the best fit for you.
The club emphasizes good sportsmanship and participation. Regattas are an exciting and engaging way to put skills and sportsmanship together as a team. Regardless of whether you paddle for fun or fitness, or whether you like to race, dragon boat paddling is an excellent way to improve fitness, be outdoors and enjoy the company of like minded-people on Collingwood's historic harbour. We hope you join us when we put our PADDLES UP!
FEES: $350.00 + $35 Basic Membership Fee
